IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

FOR TEST TAKERS: Before you apply for your English language test, please read important information below.

If you are a newcomer in Nova Scotia requesting a referral to an English language program funded by the Canadian government, please fill out our online registration on this website and we will contact you via email or phone to schedule your assessment.

If you are applying for re-assessment to re-enter an English language course, please be advised that the validity of the CLBPT assessment has been extended to 2 years during the COVID-19 pandemic. Check with your school if you still need an English assessment to continue your English language studies there.

If you are applying for proof of English language proficiency for employment or other purposes, please be advised that you are still eligible for the CLBPT assessment, but we will not be able to offer you re-assessment if you are not satisfied with your results.

We do not offer English assessment for proof of your English language proficiency for immigration purposes (i.e. Permanent Residency or Canadian Citizenship), college or university admissions. Please refer to the CIC website or your college or university to learn about their language requirements.

About Us

Learn English Nova Scotia (LENS) Testing and Counselling Centre, formerly known as Language Assessment Services of NS, is a licensed Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) language assessment and Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment (CLBA).

We are a team of certified and experienced language assessors and language education counsellors who, using the Canadian Language Benchmarks, help you find out what you can do in English and provide up–to–date information about English language classes available in your area of residence and online.

Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test

The Canadian Language Placement Test (CLBPT) is an assessment tool that helps assess client essential language skills - Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking - to place adult learners (18+) in Language Instruction for Newcomers in Canada (LINC) and English as a Second Language programs.

  • Onsite: a face-to-face meeting with an assessor in our office in Halifax
  • Rural: a face-to-face meeting for learners with no or little English with an assessor in their area of residence in Nova Scotia
  • Online at Home or From a Proctor Site:
    The test is taken on the computer from your home or a proctor site if you meet the online assessment requirements.
